Kinetic Light Installation with 450 Suspended Spheres Recognized by International Design Jury
COMO, CO, ITALY, September 11, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The A’ Design Awards has announced Klv by Takahiro Matsuo as a Gold winner within the Installation Design category. This recognition places the kinetic light installation among works evaluated through a rigorous, blind peer-review process conducted by an international jury panel of design professionals, industry experts, and academics. The A’ Design Award is one of the highly respected and well-recognized accolades in the field of installation design, acknowledging projects that demonstrate considered innovation and meaningful impact. For Takahiro Matsuo and Lucent Design Inc., the distinction affirms the technical and artistic merit of a work developed for Expo 2025.
The recognition holds relevance for the wider installation industry, where demand continues to grow for immersive environments that communicate across languages and cultures. Klv addresses this need by translating atmospheric phenomena into a structured spatial system, offering a model for experiential design that engages audiences through perception rather than text. By integrating kinetic art, programmable illumination, and projection technology within a unified framework, the work aligns with current practices that prioritize sensory accessibility and technological integration. The project demonstrates practical value for public spaces, expositions, and cultural venues seeking universally engaging experiences.
Klv, an abbreviation of Kinetic Light Vision, consists of 450 luminous acrylic spheres suspended in calibrated alignment and synchronized with panoramic projections of Shiga’s natural and cultural landscape. Each sphere is individually actuated by precision stepper motors and supported by ultra-fine 0.27 millimeter wires that minimize visual interference. Vertically aligned, ultra-narrow 0.2 degree full-color LED spotlights positioned beneath each sphere transform the suspended elements into volumetric points of light while preserving sharp beam definition. Panoramic curved projection surfaces and mirrored architectural elements expand spatial depth, allowing light, motion, and reflection to be coordinated in real time. The installation reinterprets the seasonal atmosphere of Lake Biwa as an active spatial phenomenon shaped through movement and luminosity.
This Gold A’ Design Award recognition is expected to inform future directions for Lucent Design Inc., reinforcing its exploration of light as a medium for constructing landscape rather than merely illuminating it. The distinction may encourage further development of scalable kinetic systems that integrate mechanical precision with environmental narrative. As a benchmark for the studio, the achievement supports continued research into immersive light environments that function as a shared sensory communication model. The recognition serves as motivation for the team to pursue further innovation within experiential and installation design.
