Cumming HVAC Firm Urges Dryer Vent Safety During Building Safety Month

Dryer Vent Safety in Cumming, Ga. | Building Safety Month

Cumming, United States – May 31, 2026 / HVAC Cleaning Technologies /

CUMMING, Ga.—For Building Safety Month this May, HVAC Cleaning Technologies, a Cumming, Georgia-based HVAC services company, is issuing a dryer vent fire safety advisory. The advisory urges homeowners and property managers across Forsyth County to schedule professional dryer vent inspections. According to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), failure to clean dryer vents contributes to approximately 2,900 residential fires each year, representing 34% of all residential dryer fires reported.

“Clogged or improperly routed dryer vents are among the most common and most dangerous appliance-related fire hazards we find in homes across Cumming and the surrounding communities,” said Scott Sneddon, owner of HVAC Cleaning Technologies in Cumming. “In more than 27 years of field service, a substantial majority of the dryer vents we inspect show lint accumulation that a homeowner would have no way of detecting on their own.”

Sneddon said the warning signs are often subtle—longer drying cycles, a burning smell, or a laundry room that feels unusually warm after a cycle. “By the time those symptoms show up, lint has built up to the point where it does not take much heat at all to start a fire,” he said. Hazardous levels of lint accumulation can develop before any symptoms become noticeable. Homeowners who detect a burning smell during dryer operation should discontinue use immediately and schedule a professional inspection before resuming normal use. Those who observe extended drying cycles or an unusually warm laundry room should treat these symptoms as indicators of a potentially compromised vent and schedule an inspection promptly.

Sneddon said Building Safety Month is an appropriate time for homeowners to prioritize preventive maintenance for fire hazards that often go unexamined. “A dryer vent cleaning takes roughly an hour,” he said. “It costs a fraction of what a house fire costs. That math should be very easy for anyone.”

With dryer vent fires representing a persistent and well-documented home safety risk, the NFPA and USFA continue to recommend routine vent maintenance as a primary prevention measure for residential property owners across the country.
